“LIONESS : HIDDEN TREASURES” NUMBER 1 on UK Album Chart

Amy Winehouse’s “Lioness: Hidden Treasures”, an album that stands as a testament to Amy’s exceptional talent and has received overwhelming critical acclaim, has today entered the UK album chart at number 1.

Speaking about the number 1 success Amy’s mother Janis had this to say :

“It’s such amazing news that Amy’s album has gone to number 1, and just goes to show what she still means to people. It’s especially good for the foundation and knowing that every sale will go to help a deserving cause makes the news all the more special. I’m so proud of my daughter and so happy that she is still touching people. She’s forever in my heart” Janis Winehouse

The album was compiled by long-time musical partners Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson in close association with Amy’s family, management and record label Island Records, and proves a fitting tribute to the artist, the talent and the woman. “Lioness: Hidden Treasures” is Amy’s second number 1 album in 2011 following “Back To Black” which topped the UK charts for 3 weeks earlier this year.

“Lioness” has plenty to cherish…the joy here is being reminded anew of the voice (Tony) Bennett himself would call “as good as Ela Fitzgerald”. An admirable tribute”Q

“The truly gruelling thing about Lioness is that most of it is beautiful and effortless and easy…it sounds like a great new record by someone who is spectacularly alive. But is it isn’t. And that’s what breaks your heart”.Uncut 4*

“Camden’s troubled genius is remembered for all the right reasons with this posthumous release. A vivid snapshot of her clear talent”GQ

“Utterly bewitching. A fitting final tribute”Shortlist

“This album stands up to Amy’s past and is a fitting tribute to her”Music Week

“Lioness is presented with genuine tenderness. The end notes are sweet, full of unmistakeable personality and resonance.”Metro

“The diva lives on.”The Sun

“Winehouse sounds vibrant and lively, as full of energy as she is of talent.”  - The Sunday Times

“Lioness is a noble attempt to enrich the Winehouse heritage.”Evening Standard

I’,m 57, and have listened to music for over four decades now, and I’ve heard music by almost everyone, and I’ve heard some great artists in my time. I had never heard Amy until I learned of her passing. I was curious, and I bought “Back To Black” just to see what she was all about. I was stunned by her voice, her soul, and her approach to music. Today I bought “Lioness”, and again I was stunned. She was an Artist in every sense of the word. She sang from deep within. Her music is fresh and vital, and it tears your heart out if you let it. I wish I’d known of her music long before now, but I’ve had the privilege to hear it, and I’m just AMAZED. She was an original. I hope she’s at peace now. She deserves to be.

“There’s no fool like an old fool!” I’m 76 years old. Thank you, the parents of Amy. You created a beautiful soul who was too talented to live to old age. Her talents were needed to brighten Heaven! I’m glad that I have lived long enough to enjoy the sound of her voice and witness some of the pain she endured through the words of her songs. It is sad that she left us so soon – too soon!
